I’m really not all that creative. Whether it’s writing, drawing or artwork, creating something out of nothing just isn’t my forte. But that changed when I discovered free online photo storage. All it took was the pressure of a deadline from wedding anniversary – my parent’s 50th, no less.
Allow me to explain.
Several weeks ago, I realized that it was going to be up to me to make mom and dad’s anniversary really special. Me and my brothers and sisters had planned a nice party at a local restaurant, but nobody wanted to go any further.
So, I started thinking what could I do on my own. I stopped over at my parents house and noticed all their photo albums. Now, mom and dad travel a lot, and they give me access to their house when I’m gone to help keep an eye on things. So, while they were gone, I started scanning in photos, an album at a time.
I knew there were spots online where you could make free online photo albums, so that was my plan. I was going to present mom and dad with a photo album of their 50 years together! I found so many wonderful old photos of the time the spent courting, their early married years, when us kids were little. There were pictures of graduations and baptisms, birthdays and the Holidays.
But after three weekends of scanning, I had over 1,000 photos saved! I knew I wouldn’t need them all, but I wanted them all available when I created the album.
I searched around a bit and found a site that allows free online photo storage. It was a godsend. I loaded all my photos really very quickly since they had a feature that lets you load up to 300 photos all at once.
It was so easy building my album, too. I spent a morning putting it together. It went a lot faster than building a traditional album from scratch. I was able to add text comments to the album, and audio comments to the individual photos!
And it only took a few moments to order. I sent my brothers and sisters links so they could order their own copies. Mom and dad can do the same, of course, since they have access to the Internet.
I was also able to make a slideshow of some of the photos I didn’t use. I put music to some, added voice narration to others. It was a lot of fun emailing that off to all the friends and relatives who weren’t at the 50th wedding anniversary party.
So here’s my advice: The best way to share fun memories is with a free online photo storage service. Don’t be scared just because you’ve never used a computer or because you’re intimidated by new technology – or because you’re “not creative.”
A little effort and imagination can go a long way. Before you know it, you’ll be taking precious old photos and turning them into new memories. You’ll make everyone smile, and you’ll feel like a creative genious.
